This course is an in-depth, cross-disciplinary study of the allegorical symbolism of L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s novel, The Wizard of Oz, with attention to historical, economic, literary, and theatrical interpretations of the novel and its possible relationship with the Free Silver political and economic movement of the 1890s.
