This course will cover the history, evolution and structure of policing in the United States. Popular innovations in policing and law enforcement will be emphasized. Special attention to conflicts and imperatives which define police officers’ roles and the character of police work will be discussed along with careers and hiring practices by law enforcement agencies. Prerequisite: CRIM 2203
